Ashgate Hospice Meadow & Walled Garden

The most recent stage of our work with the hospice, July 2014 saw the official opening of the newly renovated Ashgate Hospice walled gardens (behind the old grade two listed buildings) by the High Sheriff of Derbyshire at a champagne reception for local dignitaries.

Patients and visitors now have a wheelchair-friendly path to extend their enjoyment of family visits in the gardens. As they move around the curving pathways they are surrounded by large blocks of low maintenance, luscious and tall perennials inspired by Piet Oudolf's Floral Labyrinth at Trentham Gardens.

This is the latest stage of our work, started in 2006, on the six acre site, some of it in green-belt land, at one of the largest hospices in the country.

Our 3+ acre native perennial meadow, sown in May 2010, linking our day centre garden with the walled garden, continues to flourish. The meadow features in the new book ‘Great Garden Designs’ (pub Frances Lincoln).
